3 Tips For A Great iPhone Screen Repair

Cracked iPhone screens are the number one reason for getting an iPhone repaired. Due to their size and portable nature, it is only a matter of time before the inevitable happens.  As the iPhone screen is made of glass, any cracks can leave dangerous sharp edges that can cause injury. Over time the cracks will get worse, so it’s a good idea to cover the affected area with sellotape to protect your fingers and to stop loose glass falling out.

Many people mention that only the glass is cracked but the actual phone still works and can be used as normal. Due to the manufacturing process, the glass (digitiser) and the screen that shows the images (LCD) are bonded together. So if one of the components is damaged, both the glass and the LCD have to be replaced together. The good news is that because they are bonded together, you won’t run the risk of dust/dirt getting between the screen which is a common problem with the repair results on other smartphone devices.

The actual repair process to replace the iPhone screen involves the careful removal of the damaged screen, the cleaning of the inside of the device and re-fitting of the new screen component. As some components have to be removed and re-fitted the entire device needs to be tested to ensure everything works correctly.

Many iPhone users are unaware of what is involved with an iPhone screen repair and that’s why we have listed the following questions that may help you make a more informed decision:

Tip #1. Ask About The Quality Of The Screen

This is important because the better the quality, the more durable it will be. There are lots of imitation iPhone screens on the market (particularly Ebay and Amazon). Whilst these may work initially, they are far less durable and more susceptible to crack even during normal handling. The fittings are not always made to the correct size, so the screens may not sit as ‘flush’ with the main body of the phone and small gaps may be noticeable. Another common problem with these screens is the tendency for the LCD’s to fail after a few weeks/months. If you are likely to keep your iPhone for any extended period of time, a ‘cheap’ repair can end up costing more in the long run and potentially damaging your phone. Fone Angels only use high quality iPhone screens that are made to the same specification as the original, fit perfectly and have been rigorously tested for long term reliability.

Tip #2. Ask About The Testing

Due to the complexity of modern smartphones, a screen replacement involves opening up your device and the careful re-fitting of components. In order to prevent any potential problems with other features/functions on your iPhone it is important the the device is thoroughly tested. This is particularly important if the iPhone is being mailed back to the customer as it is not easy to ‘pop in’ to rectify to any problems. All it takes is for a relatively small problem (like a sticking home button) for all the good repair work to be undone. At Fone Angels we have a rigorous testing procedure in place for every repair. This ensures that every device we return has been checked by at least 2 members of staff and is in good working order. We can provide you with a copy our completed checklist if you require.

Tip #3. Ask About The Warranty

Whilst iPhone repairs are more affordable that buying a new device, it is still an expensive outlay. To give you added confidence, good repair centre’s should offer you a warranty for repairs they undertake. Many offer a 90 Day warranty, but considering the expense of an iPhone repair you should really look at 12 months as a minimum. Fone Angels offer a 12 month warranty on all our repairs as standard.
